The recent Paris climate accord provides significant global motivation for the rapid deployment of large scale renewable energy programs  The successful commercialization of solar PV technologies will be them a growing and major component of these programs.  The Paris agreement also emphasizes the importance of innovation and knowledge sharing in achieving climate change mitigation goals.  This webinar provides updated information on a very key aspect to the success of large scale solar energy deployments:   the ability to forecast accurately the variable output of solar system over hours-ahead and days-ahead time horizons.  Accurate solar forecasts provide essential information to utilities in managing and optimizing the contribution of these variable renewable energy systems in the grid.  The webinar will provide a comprehensive overview on the status of solar energy forecasting capabilities and how these forecasts are or will be used by utility systems.  Please join us for this exciting and informative 90-minute event.

Speakers

Skip Dise

Skip Dise is a Product Manager at Clean Power Research. In his role as Product Manager, Skip works closely with solar developers, utilities and energy agencies to integrate SolarAnywhere software tools into their planning and operating processes. Skip is also responsible for researching product improvements to SolarAnywhere, such as developing methods of integrating solar data into asset management tools. Skip has authored and contributed to conference papers on solar resource and forecasts and also composed the whitepaper “Behind-the-Meter Intelligence for Distributed PV Grid Integration”. Prior to joining CPR, Skip worked with a clean tech start up, Soane Energy developing environmental remediation technologies for the energy industry. Skip holds an S.B. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Elke Lorenz

Dr. Elke Lorenz - received her Diploma degree in physics at the University of Oldenburg in 1996. Since then she has been working in the Energy Meteorology group of the Energy and Semiconductor Research Laboratory (EHF) at the Institute of Physics at Oldenburg University, where she also did her PhD thesis on satellite based short term forecasting of solar radiation. Her research focus is on solar irradiance and PV power forecasting and on methods to derive solar resource data from satellite images. Since the beginning of 2011 she heads the solar team of the Energy Meteorology group.

Prof. Philippe Lauret

Prof. Philippe Lauret - Prof. Philippe LAURET (51 years old) received is Ph.D. degree from the university of La Reunion, France, in 1998. His is currently a researcher at the laboratory of Physics and Applied Mathematics for Energy and Environment (PIMENT).
His research interests are in energy meteorology, solar resource assessment and forecasting, high PV penetration, smart grids, neural networks, Bayesian probability theory. He is the author or co-author of 36 publications in international journals and 37 conference papers
