Prof. Eicke R. Weber receives SOLAR FUTURE.TODAY Visionary Influencers Lifetime Achievement Award 2019

Abu Dhabi (January 16, 2019) – Prof. Eicke R. Weber, Vice President of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and former director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems has been awarded the SOLAR FUTURE.TODAY Visionary Influencer Award 2019 in the category of Yearly Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented to Prof. Weber during the 3rd Black-Tie Gala Abu Dhabi on the occasion of the 3rd SOLAR FUTURE.TODAY World Annual Forum in Abu Dhabi last night.

Prof. Weber joined the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) as Vice President in 2015. Since then he has been working to share the Society’s mission of 100% renewable energy used wisely and efficiently on a global level, sharing his extensive knowledge of solar technologies with ISES and the solar community.

ISES is the largest international solar organization worldwide and a UN-accredited membership NGO. For more than 60 years, ISES and its members provide the technical answers to accelerate the transformation to a world with 100% renewable energy for everyone used wisely and efficiently.

Prof. Weber commented: I feel very honored to receive this award for my lifelong efforts. Today, I am very concerned that we will miss the last opportunity to avoid the earth following the path to ‘Hothouse Earth’ as described in a recent report from members of the IPCC team. What is needed is the fastest possible transformation of our energy system towards 100% Renewable Energy. I plan to continue devoting my efforts towards this goal.

Eicke Weber has been active in solar energy research for many years, teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, for twenty years. In 2006 he returned to Germany to assume the position of Institute Director of Fraunhofer ISE, until his retirement in 2016.

During his time as director of Fraunhofer ISE, Prof. Weber was also professor of physics/solar energy in the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics as well as the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg. Aiming for a CO2-free global energy supply, Prof. Weber is constantly searching for ways to connect science, finance and politics serving in many leadership roles on important international solar events and through  partnerships with international organisations and other research institutions.

SOLAR FUTURE.TODAY, is a solar and clean tech influencers platform founded in 2014, uniting influencers to jointly shape and lead the worlds transition towards 100% renewable energy.

This year’s Visionary Influencers Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 honors Prof. Eicke Weber’s hard work for the renewable energy transformation and his vital role as a global solar influencer having made a significant impact on solar policy, business and awareness over the year.

Prof. Weber joins prestigious award winners such as Dr. Jane Goodall and Hans Josef Fell as recipients of SOLAR FUTURE.TODAY awards. Each year, the award is presented for the categories policy, business, awareness and yearly life time achievements.

The International Solar Energy Society congratulates Prof. Weber on this well-deserved recognition of his long-career and dedication to solar energy.
