The Covid-19 pandemic has created the biggest global crisis in generations, aside from the climate crisis. While some of the lockdown measures are being eased, governments are devising stimulus and recovery packages to shape societies and economies for years to come.

Over the last months, we have seen how the proportion of energy supply met by renewables has reached historic highs in China, Europe, India, the UK, and the USA. This continues a trend seen since 2011. But the pace of change is not enough to meet the United Nations 2030 Agenda[1] and the Paris Climate Agreement. A global green recovery is needed. Economic growth and environmental conservation are fully compatible. According to the 2020 Global Renewables Outlook[2], accelerating renewables deployment could create between three and eight times its economic cost. Increasing the investment priorities in renewables will fuel economic growth, create employment and further participatory opportunities, enhance human welfare, and contribute to a climate-safe future. Bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind offer ready solutions to combat climate change and environmental pollution; sustainable, decarbonized economies; and resilient inclusive communities and societies.

In this webinar:

The webinar will focus on the trends and opportunities for how wind, solar, bioenergy, geothermal and hydropower technologies can work together to create a 'green COVID-19 recovery'. Speakers representing each of these technologies will present how renewables working together can build on COVID-19 recovery strategies to scale up climate action and accelerate access to clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy for all.

About the RENAlliance

The International Renewable Energy Industry Alliance (RENAlliance) was formed by its founding organizations on 4th June 2004 to enhance policy and information on renewable energy as well as to provide a combined voice for the renewable energy community, research, business and industry. The REN Alliance goal is to advance policies that favour the increased deployment and use of renewable energy by fostering collaboration, removing barriers, promoting successful implementation strategies, enhancing business conditions and developing markets.

Partners of the RENAlliance are: World Bioenergy Association, World Wind Energy Association, International Geothermal Association, International Hydropower Association, International Solar Energy Society.
