Join the Committee for the ISES Solar Energy Museum

On the occasion of SWC50 - a special ISES SWC in December 2020 to celebreate 50 years since the first ever international ISES Solar World Congress in March 1970, ISES launched the virtual ISES Solar Energy Museum.

The museum highlights the many individuals, research institutes, companies, NGOs and many more who made solar what it is today - a booming global industry and starting all the way back in the 1950s, the virtual museum presents important actors, research, inventions, historical events, displays of early products and solar records from every decade as well as the many individual solar and renewable energy pioneers that pathed the way for the industry to grow to what we know it to be today.

Now, ISES is happy to share the call below for ISES Members to join the Museums Committee to develop and maintain the museum.

Call for ISES Members to join ISES Solar Museum Committee

The online ISES Solar Energy Museum-Past Present and Future was developed as part of the SWC50 celebration in lieu of having a historical exhibition as originally planned for the conference. The museum was launched during the online conference.

The ISES board has agreed that the online museum should be maintained by a Committee of ISES members. Several of the original SWC50 Organising Committee members have agreed to be part of the online Solar Museum Committee. These are: Monica Oliphant, Paulette Middleton, Jenny McIntosh, Arabella Liehr, Dave Renné and Geoff Stapleton

  • Any member of the ISES Board or general membership is invited to become a member of the committee. Anyone with museum curator experience would be very welcome.

  • The meetings of the committee will be online at a mutually agreed time. The first meeting is proposed for late February or early March 2022.

  • If interested in becoming a member of the committee please contact the Committee Chair, Mr Geoff Stapleton on gses [at] bigpond.com  .

The initial role of the committee will be to:

  • Decide on the overall theme of the museum, i.e. whether it retains its current themes (listed below) or enacts changes when the museum is upgraded;
  • With respect to the theme and the museum contents, the committee will ensure that the museum reflects the values of ISES by providing highest quality, well vetted contributions consistent with each theme;
  • Decide what extra rooms should be included within the museum; and
  • Develop the guidelines for what type of events/photos/stories etc should be included within the museum.

The current version of the museum is divided into the following sections/rooms:

  • ISES History
  • ISES Timeline
  • Solar Architecture
  • Solar PV
  • Solar Thermal
  • PV in Developing Countries
  • CSP
  • Looking to the Future
  • SWC50 Partners (sponsors) (See Note 1)
  • SWC50 Supporters (See Note 1)
  • ISES Institute Members (See Note 2)

Notes:

  1. The intention is that the SWC50 partners and supporters’ current slides will be removed during the upgrade of the museum. However, some slides acknowledging that the museum was an output of SWC50 will be included. These might still acknowledge the partners and supporters of the celebration but that will be decided by the committee.
  2. The intention is that the current ISES Institute Members would remain in the museum. This includes chasing up those who have not provided anything to the museum to date.  However again whether this section remains will be decided by the committee.

The meetings of the committee will be online at a mutually agreed time. The first meeting is proposed for late February or early March 2022.

If interested in becoming a member of the committee please contact the Committee Chair, Mr Geoff Stapleton on gses [at] bigpond.com  .
