ISES at Intersolar 2025: Strengthening Networks, Engaging the Next Generation
This year, ISES joined Intersolar Europe in Munich by having a shared booth with DGS (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sonnenenergie), the ISES official section in Germany. On site, ISES was represented by Chiel Boonstra, ISES Treasurer.
As an overarching global network for renewable energy professionals, ISES is bringing together individual and corporate members from around the world. With deep roots in academia, ISES is known for its scientific journals, the biennial Solar World Congress, and the EuroSun conference series and for since the first edition of Intersolar more then 30 years ago, ISES joins the event to present our latest actgivities.
While at Intersolar, Chiel Boonstra visited the booths of various ISES member companies. Many of these organizations have been part of the ISES network for several years. At the same time, many young professionals expressed strong interest in joining a non-commercial, international platform where they can build meaningful connections, expand their knowledge, and grow their professional networks.
In conversations with representatives from DGS, both organizations agreed on the potential to strengthen collaboration—particularly through joint events or webinars that showcase the role of ISES on a global level alongside DGS’s national impact in Germany.
Reflecting on the event, Chiel Boonstra observed that Intersolar remains first and foremost a major commercial fair—providing a broad overview of solar PV and battery storage technologies as emerging mass-market solutions. At the same time, it highlights the continued importance of ISES in promoting a holistic vision of solar energy’s role—not only in electricity generation, but also in heating, cooling, and integrated renewable systems, all contributing toward a 100% renewable energy future.
There is clear and growing space for professional societies to support and expand the global renewable energy community—especially by welcoming and empowering the next generation. This is where initiatives like Young ISES truly shine.
