Short Description
Dr María Herrando is a Project Coordinator and a Senior Researcher (Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación fellow) in the Materials and Components division at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón (ITA). She is also an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College London. She is an Industrial Engineer (MEng), with an MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures from Imperial College London and an International PhD in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency from the University of Zaragoza. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe METAWAVE project. She was a Keynote speaker and Theme Chair at the ISES and IEA SHC International Conference on Sustainable and Solar Energy for Buildings and Industry (EuroSun 2024). She is currently a sub-task leader in the Task 73 PVT Heating systems of the SHC programme of the International Energy Agency. Her research has resulted in 21 publications in JCR journals and 30 oral contributions to international conferences, and she has 2 international, 3 national and 7 regional awards for her academic record and research. She has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems since 2018.
Her PhD focused on the analysis of solar hybrid PV-Thermal (PV-T) systems for heat and power supply in buildings, a field which she has been researching since 2011. She has been working in coordination, supervision and execution of collaborative R&D projects (Horizon Europe, H2020, FP7) for more than 10 years. Her research lines include developing and validating models for Multiphysics systems, optimising energy efficiency in equipment, systems and buildings, and techno-economic optimisation of systems and industrial processes.
