Global Information Exchange
for the RE Community
Designed to cover a broad spectrum of information needs, WIRE has been conceptualised to support the work being done in the field of renewable energy by scientists, decision makers, politicians, businessmen and other interested parties world-wide. More than just a web-site -the initiative includes a whole suite of related activities, including the creation of a global server network and cutting edge co-operative authoring and remote reviewing services.
As many members of the renewable energy community have information that they are eager to share with their colleagues using modern media, but lack the know-how and infrastructure, WIRE offers remote authoring capabilities and several forums for exactly this purpose. No longer are articles and contributions limited to bland text - WIRE provides for author-positioned images, the uploading of supportive material as files, and the provision of related links. Sound and video may be used by authors to complement articles, discussions and project reports.
While browsing WIRE requires no special registration, persons wishing to contribute to WIRE are required to register. This serves two main purposes - it allows contributors to edit, update and even delete their contributions interactively, and (should the author allow) displays additional author information for readers wishing more information on the source of such contributions. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes. WIRE depends heavily on contributions from the community it serves. In the spirit of open information exchange for the benefit of renewable energy globally, you are invited (and encouraged!) to contribute, gain benefit from and enjoy this international initiative.
Unfortunatly, this project was discontinued in 2007. ISES is pursuing ideas and possibilities to reactivate WIRE in the near future.
