PREA - Promoting Renewable Energy in Africa
PREA is an international co-operation project between African and European Universities and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES).
PREA aims to promote the wider use of renewable energy technologies in the urban environment of Africa, in support of poverty reduction, improved living conditions and sustainable development. The focus is on environmental architecture, also for poor communities, with consideration of effective policy, regulation and standard options that will support this.
Within the project a series of workshops on the theme 'Sustainable and Energy Efficient Building in Africa' took place in October 2006 and 2007 in South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
Moreover a Masters Degree Course in 'Integration of Renewable Energy in Buildings' (IREB), made to suit local climatic, economic and culturalconditions and allowing for exchange and further training opportunitieswill be introduced by the local partner universities.
The project is supported by the European Commission.
